History of the Cabins
Our guests often asked about the history of the property and like many large parcels if it was a family homesteaded or handed down. While the early ownership history is missing, we are aware of the housing being built in the 1936 era and through the late 1940’s.
The property is surrounded by a mix of property owners which includes a private ranch land owned by the Kuehster family who homesteaded in the area, a few small acreage residential sites, National Forest and Denver Water Board land.
The housing lies in a valley labeled as “Willow Creek” on the maps but has been referred to as “Starvation Gulch” in the local area. Rumors are that a sheep herder that owned the property lost his flock after a horrific snowstorm to starvation without access to food.
The Wirth family leased the property since the 1980’s and acquired the ownership of this property in 2001. The structures and housing were restored to original use with a touch of modern amenities.
